DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.94.2016.53.4

SUMMARY

Linear tree arrangements have been an inherent part of Polish landscape since the 16th century. The biggest advantages, both in environmental and landscaping terms, are attributed first of all to roadside trees arranges in rows or avenues. Due to their large size and special historical or aesthetical values this kind of plantings are valuable cultural monuments that play a major role in the development and promoting environmental and cultural tourism. Unfortunately, in spite of their numerous doubtlessly positive effects on the environment, these tree arrangements are disappearing from our landscape, taking with them a part of the history of the given place. The paper presents the state of research on historical linear tree arrangements located in the Świdnica commune. The aim of the performed dendrological inventories as well as landscape valuations based on the Wejhert curve method, the analyses of tourist attractions based on the cultural resources of the region and spatial and landscaping analyses is to demonstrate whether such tree arrangements can be a tourist attraction by themselves or whether they will be only the background for local events.

SUMMARY

The article addresses the issues of city panoramic views on the example of Poznań. The subject was raised since no account was taken of protecting panoramas in the process of city’s structural development and maintaining the exposure of buildings clearly distinguishable in the city skyline. This paper presents the methods of research into perception of urban space, panoramic views and dominants, as well as their impact on the urban landscape. The analyses cover changes in the perception of city panoramas caused by transformations of the city’s spatial structure both in the past and present. Particular attention was paid to planned investments in Poznań and their expected influence on visual perception of the city. The comprehensive and multifaceted studies have led to conclusions and guidelines relating to shaping urban structure of Poznań. It created the basis for designating zones of different protection regimes and acceptable directions of transformations in the line of the character and value of the area. The research highlighted the value of Poznań panoramic views in which the history and spatial development of the city is written. However, the lack of landscape analysis and inappropriate planning decisions have resulted in undesired transformations of valuable city views. Proper urban development should be based on spatial development studies and land-use plans made for the whole city area. Combined with the analyses and landscape guidelines suggested in the paper, they provide effective tools for the protection of cultural values, which build the identity of the city.

The Green Arteries of Wrocław: the Example of Renovation of the Street Landscape
Zielone tętnice Wrocławia: przykład odnowy krajobrazu ulicy

Justyna Rubaszek

DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.96.2016.53.4

SUMMARY

The paper presents the design concept for transformation of the string of: Legnicka, Lotnicza and Kosmonautów Streets in Wrocław – the main west transport route of the city, which connects the city center with large housing estates, the outskirts as well as with the airport, the Municipal Stadium and recreation and leisure areas (parks, the Ślęza riverbank areas, and the Glinianki swimming pool). The presented solution proposes one of the possibilities to transform the image of this string of streets by upgrading its landscape and utility values, as well as – what is important for environmental and natural reasons – by introducing new greenery and elements of the eco-friendly system of rain water management. The presented design concept, which was awarded with II prize in the national contest the Green arteries of Wrocław, is consistent with the tendencies to transform the streets of the dominant transport function, observed today worldwide in many cities and states – it is namely to transform thoroughfares into public spaces equipped with high-quality engineering and landscape solutions.

SUMMARY

The quality of anthropogenic landscape depends largely on designers. Good architectural designs and landscape architecture ones contribute to the shaping of aesthetic space. What plays a major role here is the knowledge and skills of design, which is of particular importance in realizations where stone material is used, which is known for its durability. This article shows the importance of designer’s knowledge and skills as regards proper design in stone and also presents an innovative educational project that combines scientific knowledge and practical skills for the purposes of stone design.
