PROBLEMS Spatial Temporary Actions as Tools for Space Creation SUMMARYThis article discusses the issue of temporal actions as elements of space creation. Temporal actions in the form of installations have been placed at the Nowy Targ square in Wrocław, space of which, in the opinion of the authors, can be a scene for ephemeral arrangements. The proposed installations suit the trend observed in many parts of the world. They are temporary, change their expression, low-cost and the process of their creation involves the users. As actions from the border of architecture, art and culture, they are aimed at bringing visual change to the area, express and idea, awaken curiosity of inhabitants and tourists, trigger emotions and enable social interaction, and therefore create and activate the place. PRESENTATIONS Sculpture Arrangements as Spatial Landmarks in the Landscape of Motorways and Express Roads Kompozycje rzeźbiarskie jako wyróżniki przestrzenne w krajobrazie autostrad i dróg szybkiego ruchu Jacek Burdziński DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.91.2016.52.3 SUMMARYLandscape frames of roads created by hard shoulders and directly adjacent land belts are becoming more commonly used as a space for placing decorative sculpture forms. They are easily visible accents that break the monotony of landscape along roads and motorways. At the same time, their forms always convey certain creative messages, which make them identifiable with their location. They may also play an informational and educational role, e.g. by referring symbolically to the history and specific features of the given region. At the same time, such objects should not be too detailed or complex so as to avoid distracting drivers from driving, but only to enrich the background of the road or motorway. A comparative analysis of the sculpture forms of the analysed examples has been conducted to distinguish their features that influence the perception of sculpture arrangements and traffic safety. The results of this analysis demonstrate that large objects characterised by simple forms, delicate contours and muted colours are easier to perceive and, during the brief eye contact with drivers, they may positively influence their emotional state and thus also general road safety. Apart from that, structure forms usually refer to the context of their location, although it is not always possible to decode the message conveyed by their forms correctly. Disused Fire Suppression Water Reservoirs and their New Exploitation Possibilities – a Variant Study on the Example of Wrocław Możliwości zagospodarowania nieczynnych zbiorników przeciwpożarowych - studium wariantowe na przykładzie Wrocławia Ewa Walter Maciej Piotrowski DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.92.2016.52.3 SUMMARYThe article presents the study results of the Wrocław located traditional fire fighting water reservoirs, which ceased to serve their original function, but still form a clear spatial element of great potential. The aim of the research was to develop a diagram for a course of action conditioned by various factors when the original function of the fire suppression water reservoir is altered. The study consisted in the analysis of the original and current functions of the reservoirs, their preservation status, correspondence with the environment and identification of the formal legal situation in the case of a new development concept for a reservoir conditioned by the needs of the local community. The analysis of selected reservoirs has found that they are areas of great potential, in both natural and social aspect. At the same time it has been shown that the recognition of the formal and legal situation of every object is quite complex, which may consequently result in lack of action with regard to the management of these facilities. This poses a particular problem in adjusting a water storage reservoir to the function of rainwater retention. The diagram presented in the article aims to help determine the guidelines for different variants of development of these sites depending on their local and formal legal conditions. FORUM The Succession of Functions in the Fortified Landscape of the Old Drezdenko Fortress Sukcesja funkcji w krajobrazie warownym dawnej Twierdzy Drezdenko Paweł Szumigała DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.93.2016.52.3 SUMMARYThe study based on the example of Drezdenko fortress demonstrated that the previous lack of the principles of protection of cultural values contributed to the disappearance of the landscape elements associated with the material heritage, some of which are the result of activities related to changes of techniques of defence and combat. Changes in the landscape of former military facilities are strongly affected by succession of ownership. The new owners, by introducing new forms of land use, contribute to the loss of the original landscape elements. This phenomenon occurs not only in the analyzed Drezdenko fortress, but is also common on other sites. It is worth taking steps to leave some heritage of our ancestors for next generations. |
