PROBLEMS The analyses of rural landscape with the use of historical materials on the examples of suburban villages of Wrocław The Riverside Areas and their Spatial Characteristics Affect the Recreational and Antisocial Behaviors of their Users and Offer Proposals for their Transformations Klasyfikacja cech przestrzennych terenów nadrzecznych wpływających na zachowania rekreacyjne i antyspołeczne użytkowników wraz z propozycjami przekształceń Karolina Anwajler Aleksandra Lis DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.81.2016.50.1 {mooblock=SUMMARIES} Wrocław is called the city of a hundred bridges – located on the Odra River and its four tributaries – it is one of the most populated and largest cities in Poland. The article focuses on the green areas located by the waters, which are frequently places of daily recreation for its residents. Like any area of this type these sites also possess spatial characteristics conducive both to recreational as well as antisocial behaviors. The main aim of this work was to select and characterize these features on the example of some riverside areas of Wrocław based on the field research as well as to assess them, which was possible due to the analysis of appropriate literature. The paper depicts and summarizes the recommended spatial characteristics (favoring recreation), those which are not recommended (conductive to antisocial behaviors, not favoring recreation) as well as controversial ones (conducive both to recreational and antisocial behaviors). It provides the main recommendations to improve safety within the space of the river side areas. Suburbs as None-Places? Areas designated for recreation are important for local communities, especially when they are in immediate surroundings of their residence. This research work refers to the survey conducted into the land management of the recreational areas within a Wrocław housing estate of 70–80s of XX century. The main aim was to indentify the recreational areas existing in the district, their availability and condition of their facilities. The data collected was obtained mainly from field work and review of the subject literature. What was performed next was the analysis of the users and forms of activities offered and the ones most frequently selected within the study area. In order to obtain the necessary data, there had to be made observations of the area and interviews with its inhabitants. The collected data was then summarized in diagrams, and for selected objects catalogue cards were collected characterizing in detail the recreational area under study. {/mooblock} Why houses of former manor farm workers in Greater Poland need to be protected |

PROBLEMS Spatial Temporary Actions as Tools for Space Creation PRESENTATIONS Sculpture Arrangements as Spatial Landmarks in the Landscape of Motorways and Express Roads Kompozycje rzeźbiarskie jako wyróżniki przestrzenne w krajobrazie autostrad i dróg szybkiego ruchu Jacek Burdziński DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.91.2016.52.3 {mooblock=SUMMARY} Landscape frames of roads created by hard shoulders and directly adjacent land belts are becoming more commonly used as a space for placing decorative sculpture forms. They are easily visible accents that break the monotony of landscape along roads and motorways. At the same time, their forms always convey certain creative messages, which make them identifiable with their location. They may also play an informational and educational role, e.g. by referring symbolically to the history and specific features of the given region. At the same time, such objects should not be too detailed or complex so as to avoid distracting drivers from driving, but only to enrich the background of the road or motorway. A comparative analysis of the sculpture forms of the analysed examples has been conducted to distinguish their features that influence the perception of sculpture arrangements and traffic safety. The results of this analysis demonstrate that large objects characterised by simple forms, delicate contours and muted colours are easier to perceive and, during the brief eye contact with drivers, they may positively influence their emotional state and thus also general road safety. Apart from that, structure forms usually refer to the context of their location, although it is not always possible to decode the message conveyed by their forms correctly. {/mooblock} Disused Fire Suppression Water Reservoirs and their New Exploitation Possibilities – a Variant Study on the Example of Wrocław Możliwości zagospodarowania nieczynnych zbiorników przeciwpożarowych - studium wariantowe na przykładzie Wrocławia Ewa Walter Maciej Piotrowski DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.92.2016.52.3 {mooblock=SUMMARY} FORUM The Succession of Functions in the Fortified Landscape of the Old Drezdenko Fortress Sukcesja funkcji w krajobrazie warownym dawnej Twierdzy Drezdenko Paweł Szumigała DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.93.2016.52.3 {mooblock=SUMMARY} The study based on the example of Drezdenko fortress demonstrated that the previous lack of the principles of protection of cultural values contributed to the disappearance of the landscape elements associated with the material heritage, some of which are the result of activities related to changes of techniques of defence and combat. Changes in the landscape of former military facilities are strongly affected by succession of ownership. The new owners, by introducing new forms of land use, contribute to the loss of the original landscape elements. This phenomenon occurs not only in the analyzed Drezdenko fortress, but is also common on other sites. It is worth taking steps to leave some heritage of our ancestors for next generations. {/mooblock} |

PROBLEMS Influence of Light and Shadow on the Topography and Physiognomy of the Landscape Oddziaływanie światła i cienia na topografię i fizjonomię krajobrazu Magdalena Zienowicz Ewa Podhajska Justyna Rubaszek DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.85.2016.51.2 {mooblock=SUMMARY} Spatial relations between a human being and landscape are particularly important in relation to visual reception. Light and shadow are elements which build the image of space after the dark. The analysis of the topographic and physiognomic structure of an area determines adoption of an individual approach while working on a project for a specific site. Lighting should not tend to uniformity, which is why each time it is necessary to carry out analysis in respect of the topographic – to define the type of landscape – and physiognomic structure – to define the role and function of elements constituting the cover and composition of the area. Carrying out the foregoing research enables to adopt the proper direction towards the nocturnal narrative of landscape. Frequently, moderation, a reference to the noble simplicity and restraint in the shaping of light may be the best way to create the night. This is confirmed by the verdicts of judges at international competitions who reward primarily for sensitivity to the environment, moderate design and the art of changing the image of a place. {/mooblock} Social Trend as One of Trends in City Lighting Development Nurt społeczny jako jeden z trendów rozwoju oświetlenia miast Magdalena Zienowicz DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.86.2016.51.2 {mooblock=SUMMARY} Nowadays the illumination field undergoes a revival of the genius loci term. The main reason behind this attitude and actions is the respect to a site’s character, its identity and the people who live there. Urban lighting begins to develop in a different direction, showing and highlighting the social trend. It may be proven by lighting practice and experiments undertaken by several towns in the world. Those actions prove that the light allows for processing a piece of the landscape into spatial arrangements, which in result uncover their uniqueness and peculiarity. That is why they have extra impact on people, open them up, change and integrate them, and the space they live in becomes remarkable {/mooblock} MATERIALS The Impact of Solar Power Facilities on Landscape Oddziaływanie instalacji z zakresu energetyki solarnej na krajobraz Eliza Kalbarczyk DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.87.2016.51.2 {mooblock=SUMMARY} The aim of the work is to determine the impact of various solar power facilities on the landscape. The study put forward a research hypothesis that their effect on the landscape increases along with the development of investments in helioenergetics. The study examined installations which differed in the type of technology and structure, as well as in installed power: large solar farms, structures such as solar power towers, building-integrated transparent installations, small-scale systems and micro-installations. It was shown that with the development of helioenergetics its impact on the landscape changes. In the case of solar installations the effect on landscape may be very diverse: from integration with the landscape, through a harmonious or disharmonious effect, to a landscape dominant character. The most commonly observed small-scale systems and micro-installations tend to be harmoniously integrated in the body of the building and only have a slight visual effect on the surroundings. The latest technological solutions (transparent systems) are applied in a relatively small number of investments, but effectively reduce the impact of solar installations on the landscape. {/mooblock} PRESENTATIONS Park with a Renewable Energy Sources Corner Park z zakątkiem odnawialnych źródeł energii Katarzyna Kucharzyszyn Kazimierz Chmura Halina Dzieżyc Maciej Piotrowski DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.88.2016.51.2 {mooblock=SUMMARY} The objective of this study was to show the way to arrange the park space in an attractive way, and to introduce an important educational element at the same time. The authors attempted to combine the leisure and recreation functions that result from the attractive location with educating users from various age groups. Special attention was paid to those elements whose aim is to familiarise young users with the concept of changing their environment to the better, mainly by playing. To achieve it, it was suggested to introduce a series of devices – models that present viable alternative energy sources that support or replace conventional fuels. Currently this is an important educational task. The preparation process was based on information contained in the spatial development planning documentation of Wrocław. A series of historical, functional, natural, landscaping and communication analyses were conducted and the photographic documentation of panoramic views was used. A modification of the planting arrangements was proposed, taking into account both the newly created functional and spatial zones and the existing vegetation. The leisure and recreational offer of the park was enriched by new attractions that serve the purposes of environmental education with use of the existing values of the park area (location, greenery arrangements, and terrain formation). {/mooblock} FORUM Evaluation of the Landscape – Review of Selected Methods Ocena krajobrazu – przegląd wybranych metod Elżbieta Szopińska Justyna Rubaszek Olga Raduchowska DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.89.2016.51.2 {mooblock=SUMMARY} The main purpose of the paper has been presentation of methods of landscape evaluation in landscape architecture and adjacent areas. PROBLEMS Historical Linear Tree Arrangements – Background Elements or Tourist Attractions in Themselves? Analysis of Poznan’s Panorama and Guidelines for the Use of Urban Perspectives in Town Planning The article addresses the issues of city panoramic views on the example of Poznań. The subject was raised since no account was taken of protecting panoramas in the process of city’s structural development and maintaining the exposure of buildings clearly distinguishable in the city skyline. This paper presents the methods of research into perception of urban space, panoramic views and dominants, as well as their impact on the urban landscape. The analyses cover changes in the perception of city panoramas caused by transformations of the city’s spatial structure both in the past and present. Particular attention was paid to planned investments in Poznań and their expected influence on visual perception of the city. The comprehensive and multifaceted studies have led to conclusions and guidelines relating to shaping urban structure of Poznań. It created the basis for designating zones of different protection regimes and acceptable directions of transformations in the line of the character and value of the area. The research highlighted the value of Poznań panoramic views in which the history and spatial development of the city is written. However, the lack of landscape analysis and inappropriate planning decisions have resulted in undesired transformations of valuable city views. Proper urban development should be based on spatial development studies and land-use plans made for the whole city area. Combined with the analyses and landscape guidelines suggested in the paper, they provide effective tools for the protection of cultural values, which build the identity of the city. The Green Arteries of Wrocław: the Example of Renovation of the Street Landscape Zielone tętnice Wrocławia: przykład odnowy krajobrazu ulicy Justyna Rubaszek DOI: 10.30825/5.ak.96.2016.53.4 {mooblock=SUMMARY} The paper presents the design concept for transformation of the string of: Legnicka, Lotnicza and Kosmonautów Streets in Wrocław – the main west transport route of the city, which connects the city center with large housing estates, the outskirts as well as with the airport, the Municipal Stadium and recreation and leisure areas (parks, the Ślęza riverbank areas, and the Glinianki swimming pool). The presented solution proposes one of the possibilities to transform the image of this string of streets by upgrading its landscape and utility values, as well as – what is important for environmental and natural reasons – by introducing new greenery and elements of the eco-friendly system of rain water management. The presented design concept, which was awarded with II prize in the national contest the Green arteries of Wrocław, is consistent with the tendencies to transform the streets of the dominant transport function, observed today worldwide in many cities and states – it is namely to transform thoroughfares into public spaces equipped with high-quality engineering and landscape solutions. {/mooblock} FORUM The Idea of Cooperation between Stone Industry and Science in the Field of Education on the Use of Natural Stone Idea współpracy branży kamieniarskiej oraz nauki w zakresie edukacji dotyczącej stosowania kamienia naturalnego Katarzyna Tokarczyk-Dorociak Marek W.
